Costa Rica is a country that offers so many unique travel experiences. It is a nature lover's paradise and, if you are looking for a unique destination wedding location in a beautiful destination, you have a lot of options to choose from in Costa Rica, including the Cloud Forest, waterfalls, volcano and beach!
Cloud Forest Wedding
Just 2 hours outside of San Jose, Costa Rica, you can experience one of the most unique tropical forests at a private cloud forest reserve. Once owned by one of Costa Rica's ex-presidents, this private biological reserve sits 3000 feet above sea level and is a re-creation of a 19th century mountain farm village. The unique wedding chapel was a 50th wedding anniversary gift from the ex-president to his wife and is a gorgeous setting for a destination wedding. Couples can choose to host a cocktail hour off of one of the nature trails underneath a magnificent tree named the "Avatar" tree. The main house is the perfect area for a sit-down reception for dinner and dancing with a cozy lobby and bar right next to the main dining area.
For couples interested in this location for their destination wedding, I recommend no more than 2-3 nights here and then moving on to one of the other unique locations in Costa Rica.
Just one hour outside of San Jose, couples can choose to exchange their vows with a magnificent waterfall as their backdrop. A waterfall wedding in La Paz Waterfall Gardens is best for elopements or small, intimate weddings of no more than 25 people. Couples and wedding guests can experience unique accommodations with outdoor, stone showers and a tropical waterfall tub inside of their private bathroom. Rooms overlook the tropical rainforest and Poas Volcano. Guests have early access to the nature park, where they can have close encounters with tropical birds, hummingbirds, frogs, sloths, monkeys and cats.
I recommend no more than 2-3 nights at this location before moving on to a different area in Costa Rica. This is truly a special experience that is the perfect way to start a vacation in Costa Rica and a beautiful place for a couple to say "I do"!
About three hours outside of San Jose, couples can get married with the majestic Arenal Volcano as their backdrop. There are several resorts with stunning views of the volcano to fit all budgets and styles. Arenal is a great location for groups as well because there are so many fun and adventurous activities, including horseback riding, rafting, tubing, hiking, zip lining, ATVs, waterfall repelling and more!
There is enough in Arenal to keep you busy for as long as you like and the gorgeous scenery never gets old. I recommend, at a minimum, 3 nights in Arenal but 4-5 nights would allow more time for exploration and to experience all this area has to offer.
