Destination Weddings: Why More Brides and Grooms are Choosing to Have One

According to a recent survey by The Knot of 13,000 brides and grooms in the U.S., the national average cost of a wedding has grown to $35,329 as of 2016, not including the honeymoon! How does this compare to the cost of a destination wedding? We have found with brides and grooms we work with that, on average, they are spending less than $10,000 on their wedding, which also includes their honeymoon.

Of course, there are many factors that play into the overall cost:

-Location

-Room type reserved at the resort

-Number of nights

-Number of guests

-Number of "extras" chosen to include for the wedding ceremony and/or reception

-Additional activities and/or tours booked during their stay

-Spa and/or salon treatments booked for the wedding day

-Honeymoon at the same resort/location or move to a different resort or location

These are just a few examples of things to consider when looking at the overall cost of a destination wedding. But, what brides and grooms are finding is that they have the opportunity to drastically reduce their overall budget for the wedding and honeymoon combined while creating a unique experience for themselves and their wedding guests.

I have worked with brides and grooms who have planned an intimate wedding ceremony at an adults-only resort for just the two of them as well as brides and grooms who have planned for a multiple room destination wedding group that includes family and friends. There are different options for planning a destination wedding and my job is to help you figure out the right option for you!
